... a still life


I'm taking an art class at the Art Academy - we learn a variety of techniques, from drawing, printing, painting to collage.

Here, we were taught to look at an object in terms of shading (light and dark areas) without getting distracted by our mind's desire to interpret the object, and to get the colours right. So first, we painted the lemon in black and white - it was good practice also to get the shape and proportions right, and to see where the shadow lies in relation to the object.
